What draws people to a partner, what keeps them satisfied across early adulthood, and how hormonal birth control shapes relationship functioning.

METHODS

Cross-sectional and longitudinal studies with couples from the St. Petersburg community and USF undergraduates. Validated instruments and observational methods assess partner preferences, relationship satisfaction, and conflict resolution.

How adolescent-onset substance use disorder progresses into adulthood in a high-risk, mixed-gender sample.

METHODS

Multi-site longitudinal cohort of clinical probands and their siblings, now in a fourth wave (ages 35–40). Validated structured interviews assess alcohol and other substance use, antisocial behavior, generalized anxiety disorder, and major depressive disorder.

Developing and testing a technology-based intervention to reduce alcohol and sexual risk in young women with a history of sexual victimization.

METHODS

Multi-phase user-centered design (double diamond, design thinking) with the target population shaping content, design, and delivery, followed by a large randomized controlled trial against a control condition.

How adolescent girls navigate sexual situations and the barriers to safer sex, toward a technology-based STI/HIV prevention program.

METHODS

User feedback interviews and surveys on alcohol use, mental health, and sexual experiences guide a sex-positive program covering emotions, sexual communication, consent, boundaries, and sexual health.

The cognitive, emotional, and behavioral outcomes of cannabis use in cisgender women.

METHODS

Cross-sectional surveys on adverse childhood experiences, substance use, physical health, medication use, anxiety, depression, and PTSD, plus semi-structured interviews on cannabis knowledge, reasons for use, barriers, and facilitators.
